Why Marriages Fail?

       The Keep-Quiet-and-Do-It-Alone Myth is the myth I decided to write about. I didn't know that it would hit me hard when it related so much to not only my marriage but my culture. I have to say that I was highly uneducated the the realm of marriage, and sex education, and how a relationship is supposed to function through hardship and triumph. I thought I was prepared when in reality it was harder than planned. I didn't think Consumer Marriage was real, I was mesmerized by what I may have witnessed and what potentially could have happened. I knew that it was another trap set by Satan to challenge our lives.

"Marriage brings greater possibilities for happiness than does any other human relationship." 

This talk by Elder Russell M. Nelson called "Nurturing Marriage" helped me to understand where I could improve myself within my role. 

1. Doctrinal Foundation - "Marriage was intended by the Lord to endure beyond physical death. His plan offers eternal perpetuation of the family in the kingdom of God. His plan provides temples and opportunities to officiate therein for the living and the dead."

2. Strengthening Marriage - Appreciate, Communicate and To Contemplate - President Harold B. Lee said “that the most important of the Lord’s work you and I will ever do will be within the walls of our own homes.”

Reflection Journal

  I am grateful to be a student. This week is number two and we’ve been able to ponder - marriage myths, and a discussion topic on what is the key for successful marriage. Last week we are able to read about what we need in a marriage and write about the origin of the family. I found it enlightening to think about what we know versus the experiences we have faced. Every one in our class comes from different perspectives. There is a few who are single and a few that are married in different parts of their lives. I fall into the category of past the ten year mark but almost to twenty years. I think that it takes two individuals who are willing to compromise, forgive and be patient.  In the readings we read about chapters 1-2. We learned about the myths that are out there.   In Chapter 4, we learned about taking time for your marriage. I can remember a time when I felt most insecure and it included being a wife of an oilfield employee where time was sacrificed because my husband was away for weeks at a time. It was interesting to know that human nature tests the way we feel about our loved ones and the need for constant companionship. I know that I feel a certain for my husband and most of the time I have to be in fight mode. I have to fight off both sides of our families and their constant requests as well as fight for the survival of my marriage.
