Intimacy & Intentionality

What does it mean? Intimacy is defined as "something of a personal or private nature" and the synonyms related to this word are - belonging, familiarity, inseparability, and closeness. All of which can be related to the presentation and reading from this week's study portion.  “Our natural affections are planted in us by the Spirit of God, for a wise purpose; and they are the very main-springs of life and happiness—they are the cement of all virtuous and heavenly society—they are the essence of charity, or love; … I wanted to personally answer these Pondering questions. I wanted to go ahead and answer them.  Why is there so much confusion in the world concerning sexual intimacy? I think defining the word intimacy means that there has to be an understanding between a couple in order to know what it means. The world can twist and turn the definition and meaning where it becomes overwhelming and overbearing.  What questions do you have regarding this sacred subjec...

Why Marriages Fail?

Image
The Keep-Quiet-and-Do-It-Alone Myth is the myth I decided to write about. I didn't know that it would hit me hard when it related so much to not only my marriage but my culture. I have to say that I was highly uneducated the the realm of marriage, and sex education, and how a relationship is supposed to function through hardship and triumph. I thought I was prepared when in reality it was harder than planned. I didn't think Consumer Marriage was real, I was mesmerized by what I may have witnessed and what potentially could have happened. I knew that it was another trap set by Satan to challenge our lives. " Marriage brings greater possibilities for happiness than does any other human relationship."   This talk by Elder Russell M. Nelson called "Nurturing Marriage" helped me to understand where I could improve myself within my role.  1. Doctrinal Foundation - " Marriage was intended by the Lord to endure beyond physical death. His plan offers ...

Boundaries & Management

In Chapter 4, we learned about taking time for your marriage. I can remember a time when I felt most insecure and it included being a wife of an oilfield employee where time was sacrificed because my husband was away for weeks at a time. It was interesting to know that human nature tests the way we feel about our loved ones and the need for constant companionship. I know that I feel a certain for my husband and most of the time I have to be in fight mode. I have to fight off both sides of our families and their constant requests as well as fight for the survival of my marriage. " the most common one is that the woman is the pursuer for more time together and the man the distancer." This excerpt is true, I felt like I was the only one making the effort. It wasn't until after we found intimacy with one another that we realized how important our relationship was to us. After ten-plus years we found ourselves in smoothing our arguments and making time for one another. This ...

What is Anger? How do we deal with it?

Image
Anger plays a huge role in how a relationship elevates or declines. I know all too well how anger limits what we do and how we react. In this class, I am able to understand how to act when it comes to emotion and how to move forward in my interactions and feelings about it.  “Cease your anger, and sullenness of temper. … Do not get so angry that you cannot pray. …”  This week we learned about how to deal with Anger and a new technique called The Speaker Listener technique. The quote I shared is for me to reflect upon the purpose of anger and how it can assist me in my marriage as well as the relationships I hold.  "A cunning part of his strategy is to dissociate anger from agency, making us believe that we are victims of an emotion that we cannot control."   Satan is working to break down the family one at a time and he finds ways of dividing it within a marriage and egos start to break down unnecessary lines and boundaries. It is important t...
