Intimacy & Intentionality

 What does it mean? Intimacy is defined as "something of a personal or private nature" and the synonyms related to this word are - belonging, familiarity, inseparability, and closeness. All of which can be related to the presentation and reading from this week's study portion.

I wanted to personally answer these Pondering questions. I wanted to go ahead and answer them. 

  1. Why is there so much confusion in the world concerning sexual intimacy? I think defining the word intimacy means that there has to be an understanding between a couple in order to know what it means. The world can twist and turn the definition and meaning where it becomes overwhelming and overbearing. 
  2. What questions do you have regarding this sacred subject? I feel like I found it within my marriage and we are sorting it all out. Our priorities have changed which means we shifted our lives, our perspectives, and what's most important which the marriage is the most sacred.
  3. If you are married, consider what you can do to enrich your marital sexual intimacy? Time is not on our hands, and it decreases when we have less and less time together. We make time for one another and it includes going out on a date, spending time at home, and saving money by cooking a home-cooked meal. Anything that pushes time away from one another means making changes to keep that time designated for your marriage. 
  4. How can a couple successfully reconcile the reality that one partner often has a stronger desire for sexual intimacy than the other? I found understanding by speaking up to my husband with the concerns I had and we were able to understand that we had needs and to communicate better so could address it.

  I am grateful to be a student. This week is number two and we’ve been able to ponder - marriage myths, and a discussion topic on what is the key for successful marriage. Last week we are able to read about what we need in a marriage and write about the origin of the family. I found it enlightening to think about what we know versus the experiences we have faced.   In Chapter 4, we learned about taking time for your marriage. I can remember a time when I felt most insecure and it included being a wife of an oilfield employee where time was sacrificed because my husband was away for weeks at a time. It was interesting to know that human nature tests the way we feel about our loved ones and the need for constant companionship. I know that I feel a certain for my husband and most of the time I have to be in fight mode. I have to fight off both sides of our families and their constant requests as well as fight for the survival of my marriage. " the most common one is that the woman is the pursuer for more time together and the man the distancer." This excerpt is true, I felt like I was the only one making the effort.
